The 34-year-old was not best pleased with being left out of the Romania squad which eventually lost out to Greece in the recent World Cup qualification play-off.

And Mutu, who has scored 35 goals in 77 caps for his country, showed his displeasure by posting a picture of Piţurcă on his Facebook page with the coach's head replaced by that of the fictional TV character Mr Bean.

The doctored image was quickly removed but the Romanian Football Federation had already found out about the incident.

They promptly sent Mutu a letter informing him that he will not be considered for selection by the national team ever again.
