Copa del Rey: Barça on course to final

Friday, February 6, 2009

Barcelona comfortably saw off struggling Real Mallorca 2-0 to put themselves in a commanding position after the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final.

Barça forward Bojan Krkić had two early shots saved by outstretched Mallorca goalkeeper Germán Lux.

Andrés Iniesta and Sylvinho both also came close to scoring for the home side before Thierry Henry broke the deadlock on 35 minutes.

Bojan played in an inviting cross from the right to the unmarked Henry eight yards out and the French striker headed into the back of the net for his thirteenth strike of the season.

Lionel Messi was introduced in the second half and within minutes he forced Lux to make a save from his powerful shot.

The second goal arrived in the 74th minute as defender Rafael Márquez curled a perfect, accurate free-kick into Lux’s top right hand corner to give them a two goal cushion to take to Mallorca for the second leg.
