Guti to miss Barcelona showdown

Thursday, April 30, 2009

Real Madrid midfielder Guti has been ruled out of Saturday's El Clasico against arch-rivals Barcelona due to an ankle injury.

The 32-year-old picked up the problem during training on Wednesday and will play no part in the top-of-the-table encounter.

"After the exploration and tests carried out in the Hospital Sanitas La Moraleja, Guti has twisted an ankle without any bone damage," confirmed a club statement.

"Guti will be out of the game against Barcelona and according to his clinical evolution, the medical team will re-evaluate him to see how long he will miss."

The Spanish champions are already without Wesley Sneijder and Mahamadou Diarra, while Arjen Robben and Gabriel Heinze may also miss the game because of injuries.

The Barcelona match could be crucial in deciding the league title this season, as Real are just four points behind the Catalans at the top of the table with just five matches to play.
