Fernando Morientes leaves Valencia

Thursday, May 28, 2009

Veteran striker Fernando Morientes has officially announced he will leave Valencia at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old’s contract will not be renewed by Los Che, meaning he will become a free agent in June.

"I am here to say goodbye," Morientes said during an emotional press conference at the Mestalla.

"This is my last-ever press conference as a Valencia player.

"(Regarding my future) nothing has been decided yet. I have received important offers and I am going to study them in order to make the best decision.

"I have spent three years here and I have received a lot of respect, not just from the fans in the stadium, but those in the street too. The fans should know that I am very grateful to them for all the respect they have shown me.

"We have not matched the club’s targets, and I have not matched my personal objectives, but you also learn from bad years.

"When I signed I said I wanted to win titles, and we did it with the Copa del Rey. What a great memory!"
