Arsenal target Brede Hangeland expects Fulham stay

Thursday, August 20, 2009

Norwegian defender Brede Hangeland claims that he fully expects to stay at Fulham after speculation linking him with a move to Arsenal died down.

The 28-year-old has been a reported target for the Gunners for much of the summer, with rumours intensifying following the departure of Kolo Touré to Manchester City last month.

Hangeland's performances last season for Fulham helped them clinch a seventh place finish in the Premier League, and a resulting berth in the inaugural Europa League.

The Cottagers have stated their intentions to retain the in-demand defender and Hangeland is now keen to put the speculation to bed.

Speaking to VG, Hangeland stressed: "I'm not going to sit here and lie - you do think about these things.

"I thought about it a lot when I was with the national team, when there was a lot of talk.

"I don't see anything happening now. I would be surprised.

"All indications are that I will stay. It has actually always been that way.

"There are probably a lot of people who are sick of seeing me in the newspapers and I'm one of them."
