Gabriel Agbonlahor scored for a fourth successive match as Aston Villa secured their progression to the last 16 of the Carling Cup with a 1-0 win over Cardiff City.
The hosts grabbed the only goal of the game after just three minutes when Agbonlahor flicked home a John Carew cross.
Villa thought they had a second in the 58th minute but James Milner smashed a penalty against a post.
