Carling Cup: Preston 1-5 Tottenham

Thursday, September 24, 2009

Peter Crouch scored a hat trick as Tottenham Hotspur routed Preston North End 5-1 in the fifth round of the Carling Cup.

Crouch volleyed home Gareth Bale's cross for a 14th-minute opener before the in-form Jermain Defoe nodded home after 37 minutes.

England striker Crouch found the target again in the 77th minute after connecting with Aaron Lennon's cross but substitute Chris Brown pulled one back for Preston six minutes later.

Robbie Keane, who replaced Defoe after 70 minutes, made it 4-1 with three minutes left and Crouch completed his treble in stoppage time with an outrageous flick from another Lennon cross.
