Kolo Touré's header nine minutes from the end of extra-time ousted Fulham 2-1 and sent Manchester City into the fourth round of the Carling Cup.
Zoltán Gera's spectacular 34th minute strike opened the scoring, but Gareth Barry headed City level seven minutes into the second half.
There were no further goals in normal time, and penalties were approaching when Touré met Martin Petrov's inswinging corner to send City through to the last 16.
