Emile Heskey: I may quit Aston Villa

Monday, October 12, 2009

Emile Heskey admits he may have to leave Aston Villa in January in a bid to secure his place in the England squad for next summer's World Cup.

The 31-year-old striker finds himself in the bizarre situation of being first choice for country - but not club.

Heskey has failed to establish himself in Martin O'Neill's first team this season having moved to Villa from Wigan Athletic for £3.5 milion last January.

He has started only three games this season, coming off the bench four times, and has not scored for club or country.

"I will have to sit down and think about my next move," Heskey said.

"I don’t know if I can get a World Cup place if I am not playing for Villa.

"You always think about those kind of things, but, like I said, I will just have to try to address it when the time is right.

"You will have to ask the manager why I am first choice for England and not for Villa.

"I’m never going to give up, it’s just another hurdle I have to get over."
