Serie A: Fiorentina 3-1 Catania

Monday, November 2, 2009

Fiorentina managed to close in on the top-four after a disappointing start to the season as they enjoyed a 3-1 victory at home to Catania.

Italian midfielder Marco Marchionni gave the Viola the lead after four minutes which lasted until Catania leveled things up just after half-time.

First, Fiorentina found themselves down to 10 men just before the break when Dario Dainelli's deliberate hand-ball saw him given his marching orders for a second yellow.

Then, three minutes after the re-start Giuseppe Mascara gave the away fans reason to up the volume when he scored the equaliser.

But the loss of Ciro Capuano to a second yellow was a crushing blow for the visitors and Marchionni cashed in 11 minutes later before Alberto Gilardino wrapped up the three points with the third four minutes from time.
