Valencia climbed into third place in La Liga after a battling 2-1 success over Athletic Bilbao at San Mames.
After a scoreless first half, Bilbao took a 57th minute lead through Iker Muniain's close-range finish, only for David Villa to level just four minutes later.
Bilbao were reduced to 10 men when Koikili picked up his second yellow of the half to earn an early bath, and the visitors would go onto make the most of that bonus with Jérémy Mathieu firing home the winning goal eight minutes from time.
The hosts had a golden chance to salvage a point when they were awarded an 88th-minute penalty following David Navarro's foul on Javi Martínez, but David López spurned the opportunity as he missed his spot-kick.
