Robert Acquafresca scored twice and Rodrigo Palacio once to give Genoa a comfortable 3-0 win over 10-man Udinese at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
After a bright start from the visitors, Genoa grew in confidence as the first half progressed and went ahead in the 30th minute thanks to Acquafresca's first goal in Rossoblu.
Their second goal came in the 53rd minute when Andrea Coda pushed Acquafresca to the ground inside the area and the striker stroked his spot-kick home.
Udinese lost Cristian Zapata to a red card in the 57th minute as he fell foul to new severe rules aimed at reducing the amount of swearing on the field.
And they lost any hope of getting back into the game when Palacio bagged Genoa's third in the 64th minute.
