Chelsea are now four points behind Manchester United and two behind Arsenal, though with a game in hand, following a 1-1 draw away at Blackburn Rovers.
Chelsea went ahead when Nicolas Anelka burst down the right and laid the ball back for Didier Drogba to wrong-foot the entire Rovers defence and keeper Jason Brown with a neat left-footed finish back into the opposite corner.
But mid-standings Blackburn refused to give in, and El-Hadji Diouf collected a point for his side with a 70th-minute header at the far post from MÃchel Salgado's cross.
