Liverpool remain in sixth in the Premier League standings despite beating a stubborn Blackburn Rovers side 2-1 at Anfield.

The hosts opened the scoring after 20 minutes when Steven Gerrard rounded off the best move of the match by clipping home a left-footed shot.

Blackburn equalised five minutes before the interval when Keith Andrews fired home from the spot after Jamie Carragher had handled when on the floor in the area.

But one minute before the break, Liverpool went ahead again when Paul Robinson went walkabout to allow Maxi Rodríguez to simply square for Fernando Torres to tuck away his 13th goal of the season.
