Ex-Chelsea star Michael Ballack has signed a two-year contract to rejoin his old club Bayer Leverkusen, where he previously played from 1999-2002.
Time has been called on Ballack's stay in West London, after the Blues refused to extend his deal that runs out at the end of this month.
Two Bundesliga clubs - Hamburg and VfL Wolfsburg - along with Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Sevilla reportedly showed interest in Ballack, but the 33-year-old has now decided to return to the club where he rose to prominence.
"My return to Bayer is the closing of a circle for me," Ballack said in the club's website.
"I had a great and successful time here which I think back on with great pleasure. That played a role in my decision for Bayer."
Ballack played for Leverkusen between 1999 and 2002, finishing a runner-up in the Bundesliga twice and making it to the Champions League final in 2002.
He will reportedly earn €6 million per annum at the BayArena, but various bonuses will push up the total two-year deal to around €15 million.
