Shakhtar Donetsk got their Champions League campaign off to a winning start as they earned a hard-fought 1-0 success against Partizan Belgrade.

Plucky Partizan looked like they might hold but their resistance was finally broken in the 71th minute as Shakhtar captain Darijo Srna bent a fine 25-yard free-kick round the wall and into the bottom corner.
