Premier League: Man City 0-3 Arsenal

Monday, October 25, 2010

Arsenal climbed up to second in the Premier League standings after beating 10-man Manchester City 3-0 at Eastlands.

The contest became an uphill struggle for City as last-man Dedryck Boyata was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Marouane Chamakh.

And Arsenal took advantage of their numerical superiority in the 20th minute when Samir Nasri played a quick one-two with Andrei Arshavin before finishing emphatically past the helpless Joe Hart.

The visitors were handed a gilt-edged chance to put the game to bed five minutes before the break when Vincent Kompany brought down Cesc Fàbregas just inside the area, but Hart managed to keep out the resulting penalty taken by the Spaniard to keep City in the game.

City battled valiantly but gaps began to appear in the second half and Alex Song increased the lead in the 66th minute, before substitute Nicklas Bendtner rounded off an 88th-minute counterattack with a low shot to the far post.
