Premier League: Birmingham 2-2 Man City

Thursday, February 3, 2011

Title hopefuls Manchester City twice let a lead slip to draw 2-2 with lowly Birmingham City at St Andrew's.

The visitors took the lead inside the first five minutes as as Carlos Tévez's shot deflected in off Martin Jiránek, making his Premier League debut for Blues.

Nikola Žigić poked in a dangerous free-kick from David Bentley to claim a 23rd-minute equalizer but Aleksandar Kolarov put City back in front just before the break with a fine free-kick.

But the hosts then posed City a host of problems in the second half and substitute Kevin Phillips was brought down in the box by substitute Patrick Vieira, leaving it to Craig Gardner to slam the 77th-minute spot-kick past Joe Hart.
