Guti rates Messi better than Ronaldo

Former Real Madrid star Guti believes Cristiano Ronaldo is not of the same level as Lionel Messi when it comes to performing in big games.

Ronaldo smashed La Liga's goals record last season, netting on 40 occasions, but Messi enjoyed the more successful campaign as he helped Barcelona to success in La Liga before putting in a man-of-the-match performance in the Champions League final victory over Manchester United.

And Guti, who left Real last summer to join Turkish side Besiktas, reckons Messi is the superior player due to his ability to produce his best in the most important fixtures.

Guti told Punto Pelota: "Cristiano is a great player.

"He's decisive in many games, but in the big games he isn't up to the task, which is something that Messi has done.

"The very best players are the ones who perform in the top-level matches."
