Romanian riot police halt football game to arrest player

Friday, June 14, 2013

A fourth division match in Romania between Chişoda and Sânnicolaul Mare was briefly suspended after riot police invaded the pitch in search of a player suspected of multiple crimes.

Armed police stormed the pitch during the game and made all the players and coaches lie on the ground with their hands on their heads to find Sorin Udrea, a reputed gang leader who has played for Chişoda this season.

Just as police were about to give up their search, they spotted their man hiding out in the stands among fans.

Once found, Udrea was swiftly taken into police custody, arrested on multiple counts of extortion, robbery and smuggling.
