Real Madrid have beaten English rivals Chelsea in the race for Brazilian sensation Alipio Duarte Brandao, according to Marca.

The 16-year-old has left Portuguese club Rio Ave and will join Los Merengues’ youth team later this week.

Rio Ave were not happy about losing the player, but felt that they could no longer nurture his growing talents and knew the best option was to let him go.

Alipio, who is a product of Rio Ave's youth programme, is expected to sign a four year contract with the Spanish champions.

The Brazilian born striker, dubbed 'new Cristiano Ronaldo' by the Portuguese press on account of his pace with the ball, will join the Real Madrid Castilla, hoping to rise through the ranks and one day make it to the first team.

Two years ago the prodigy was spotted by the same sports management company that numbers José Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo among their clients.

Real defender Pepe, who was born in Brazil but took Portuguese citizenship, commented on the youngster: "Alipio has a spectacular talent.

"We know all about him and, frankly, it is very difficult now to find a player of his age with so much talent.

"He has great maturity for a young man and he can become an important player. If he keeps improving, I hope that next year he will be able to train with us."
