Euro 2008 MVP Xavi Hernández has confirmed he will sign a new contract with Barcelona in the near future.

The 28-year-old has been in negotiations over a new deal for several weeks now, with his existing contract due to expire in 2010.

Countless rumors about Xavi’s future at the Camp Nou have surfaced as the player's agent admitted earlier this week that the situation had not been sorted out.

The playmaker wants to be offered a lucrative contract similar to the other big earners at Barça.

Barcelona are understood to be desperate to keep Xavi and the Spain international thinks both parties are close to a resolution and a contract will be agreed shortly.

"There has been a lot of good progress and shortly, I will be able to say that I will remain at Barça for years to come," Xavi told radio station ONA FM.

"I would be very happy to finish my career here," he added.
