City offer £24m for Yaya Touré

Tuesday, January 6, 2009

Manchester City have offered a whopping £24 million for Barcelona midfielder Yaya Touré, younger brother of Arsenal defender Kolo Touré.

Touré, who was snubbed Arsenal in favour of Barça when he left Monaco 18 months ago, is considered one of the best central midfielders in Europe and has been dubbed the ‘new Patrick Vieira’ in Spain.

Speculation has arisen over Touré's future in the past few months as Barça had promised him a new deal last summer but it never materialised.

But the Ivorian recently stated that he had no intention of leaving Nou Camp, who are similarly eager to keep of their muscular middle-man.

An unnamed source at the Catalans said: "There is an offer for Yaya but the club will do what is necessary to convince the player to stay."

The Sun claims City will draw on their vast wealth to lure Touré to Eastlands, though, as it is understood they will double his £2.4 million a year wage at Barcelona in an effort to tempt him away.

Yaya's brother, Kolo, has also been targeted by City boss Mark Hughes, but Gunners boss Arsène Wenger denied the 27-year-old's recent transfer request.
