Valencia back to fourth in the La Liga standings with a 3-1 home win over third-placed Sevilla at Mestalla.

Julien Escudé put the visitors ahead in the ninth minute when he headed home Renato's corner.

The visitors almost doubled the lead when Diego Perotti's left-footed shot from six yards was tipped round a post by César.

However, the match was turned on its head when Adriano Correira was dismissed for a professional foul on David Villa two minutes before the break.

It took Valencia little time to make their numerical advantage count as Villa equalised from the spot on the stroke of half-time after Juan Mata was fouled by Escudé.

The scores remained deadlocked until Fernando Navarro handled the ball in the area on 83 minutes and Mata converted the resulting penalty.

Second-half substitute Pablo Hernández rounded off the win with a low shot inside the post deep into injury time.
