A dramatic late strike from Andrés Iniesta put 10-man Barcelona into the Champions League final in Rome after a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The hosts were ahead after just nine minutes as Frank Lampard's attempted cross hit makeshift centre-half Yaya Touré and Michael Essien ran in before crashing a magnificent volley past Víctor Valdés and in off the underside of the bar.

Didier Drogba should have made it 2-0 just after the break when he collected a pass from Nicolas Anelka and turned past Gerard Piqué, only for Valdés to block his shot with his leg.

The Catalans then saw their cause dealt a hammer blow when Éric Abidal was harshly sent off for what was a debatable foul on Anelka in the 66th minute.

Then with 93 minutes on the clock, Lionel Messi picked out Iniesta to his right and the midfieleder drove the equaliser past Petr Čech to spark wild celebrations on the Barcelona bench.

But there was still time for more drama when Michael Ballack fired in a volley which hit Samuel Eto’o high on an arm as he turned his back on the shot, but nothing was given.
