Guardiola praises 'gentleman' Terry

Saturday, May 9, 2009

John Terry is a true gentleman in the eyes of Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola after the Chelsea skipper interruptied the Catalan side's celebrations to wish them well for the final.

Norwegian referee Tom Henning Øvrebø had angered Chelsea by dismissing a number of penalty claims as a 1-1 draw saw the last season finalists side crash out of the competition on the away goals rule.

However, despite the angry scenes of the pitch at the end of the match, Terry took the time to enter the visitors’ dressing room and shook them each by the hand.

"I want to thank John Terry for coming into the dressing room and congratulating us," Guardiola said. "He’s a true gentleman."

One eye witness confirmed in The Sun: "While Didier Drogba and Michael Ballack were behaving disgracefully towards the ref, Terry made a bee-line for Barça’s dressing room and, within seconds, loud applause broke out.

"Then we could hear them chanting his name — it was unbelievable."
