Vieira wants Inter stay

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

French midfielder Patrick Vieira insists he is happy at Inter Milan, despite being tipped to leave the San Siro at the end of the season.

In recent weeks it has been widely reported that Vieira has set his sights on a move to either Paris St Germain or ousted champions Olympique Lyon.

The former Arsenal captain midfielder has battled with injuries all season and started just 10 matches this campaign.

However, Vieira expects to be reassured of his place at the Nerazzurri when he meets with coach José Mourinho next week.

He told French sports daily L'Equipe: "I will have to talk with the coach and find out if he trusts me and my abilities. But I know that if I'm physically fine I have my place here. Without a problem."

Vieira added: "I have never met anyone from PSG or any other French club.

"As soon as I let people know I intend to carry on playing, people started talking about a return to France or England.

"I want to stay at Inter. I feel happy here. That desire has to be shared by everyone, but I am not looking for a departure.

"To me it is almost certain that I will stay. I don't see myself, for example, returning to England in a club that plays in mid-table or fighting for survival.

"I would prefer to join a team in France fighting for the national title. That would be logical."
