Lyon sign Lisandro to replace Benzema

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

Olympique Lyon have signed FC Porto striker Lisandro López as the permanent replacement for Real Madrid-bound Karim Benzema.

The seven-time French champions announced on their website in the early hours of Tuesday morning that the two clubs have agreed a €24 million deal for the 26-year-old, a fee that could rise to as much as €28 million depending upon the player's performances.

"Olympique Lyonnais and FC Porto have reached agreement on the transfer of Argentinian international Lisandro López for a sum of €24 million, plus a maximum of €4 million related to sporting achievements," the Lyon statement said.

"The realisation of this transfer is dependent on the achievement of an agreement between the player and Olympique Lyonnais and the results of a medical examination.

"Olympique Lyonnais welcomes the start of its recruitment campaign with one of the best forwards currently operating in Europe."

The Argentina international, who scored 49 league goals in 106 league games for Porto, must now agree personal terms and pass a medical before sealing the switch.
