Manchester United chief executive David Gill has assured Indonesian fans that the club are committed to return to the country after plans to play in Jakarta had to be scrapped.

The Red Devils were due to spend three days from Monday in the capital, and take on the Indonesian Super League XI outfit in front of thousands of adoring fans at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.

But they had to cancel their first visit to Indonesia after two bomb blasts at tourist hotels in Jakarta.

At least nine people have been killed and 50 injured following the recent terrorist attacks.

However, Gill insists the club will do their best to return to Indonesia in the near future.

"Without doubt we would one day like to repay the loyalty of the Indonesian fans," he told reporters.

"We were looking forward to going there and if we can go back one day we would like to but we can't make a commitment because we only do these major tours every two years.

"But we will look at it very seriously."

It is claimed there were 28 million United fans in Indonesia. All 73,000 tickets for the game that should have taken place on Monday night were sold out three weeks ago.
