The ex-Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Portsmouth defender has joined on a free transfer and signed a signed a five-year contract believed to be worth £40,000 a week.

It means the 34-year-old will pocket more than the rest of his team-mates put together.

Speaking at a press conference at Meadow Lane, Campbell said: "I am delighted to sign with Notts County today and I am genuinely excited by what the club is trying to achieve.

"I feel I still have a lot to offer as a footballer and hope to repay the confidence that Notts County has shown in me.

"The hard work starts now but I am confident that something special is being created at the club which will yield a team able to match the ambitions of the new owners, management and proud fans."

County are riding on the crest of a wave following the arrival of Dubai-based owners Munto Finance in June.

The backers brought in former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson as director of football and the club are top of the table after four games.
