World champions Italy were made to work very hard before claiming a 3-2 win over Cyprus in Parma.
Cyprus captain Ioannis Okkas had put the visitors in front after 12 minutes and Chrysostomos Michail doubled the lead in the 48th minute.
But Alberto Gilardino claimed a brilliant hat-trick in the final 12 minutes to seal an unlikely win for the Azzurri.
