Premier League: Portsmouth 2-0 Liverpool

Liverpool failed to ease the pressure on manager Rafa Benítez as the Reds crashed to a 2-0 defeat away to rock-bottom Portsmouth.

Pompey were aggressive from the onset and took the lead on 33 minutes when Nadir Belhadj thumped home a stunning volley from an acute angle after former Portsmouth full-back Glen Johnson failed to clear the ball properly.

The visitors were reduced to ten men just before half-time when Javier Mascherano was given a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Tal Ben-Haim.

And Frédéric Piquionne wrapped up the win with eight minutes remaining when he flicked the ball in the air before lashing a crisp volley past Pepe Reina.
