Arsenal narrowed the gap at the top with a 3-1 victory at Stoke City, although the result was overshadowed by a sickening injury to Aaron Ramsey.

Unbeaten in 11 games, Stoke started brightly and grabbed the lead when Danny Pugh headed in a trademark Rory Delap throw-in in the eighth minute.

Nicklas Bendtner then brought the Gunners back on terms on 32 minutes when he headed in a cross by Cesc Fàbregas.

But the game was overshadowed by a serious injury to Ramsey midway through the second period following a crunching challenge with Ryan Shawcross, who was shown an immediate red card and left the pitch in tears at the realisation of how serious the problem was.

Arsenal snatched the winner late on when Fàbregas scored from the penalty spot after a Pugh handball and Thomas Vermaelen then added another goal during seven minutes of injury time to bring the Gunners back to within three points of Chelsea.
