Bayern Munich suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Fiorentina but still managed to advance to the Champions League quarterfinals on away goals.
The Germans took a 2-1 advantage going into the return clash in Florence, but fell behind on 29 minutes when Juan Manuel Vargas pounced on Hans-Jörg Butt's fumble.
Alberto Gilardino's superb backheel allowed Stevan Jovetić to double the lead after the re-start, only for Bayern to get themselves back into the tie through Mark van Bommel's expert finish from outside the area.
Four minutes later the Viola were ahead in the tie again when Jovetić outmuscled Daniel Van Buyten and forced home from close range.
But just 72 seconds later, Arjen Robben unleashed a wonder strike to make it 4-4 on aggregate, giving Bayern the away goal advantage.
