Liverpool moved up to fifth in the Premier League table after dispatching Sunderland 3-0 in a comfortable victory at Anfield.

Fernando Torres got the party started after just three minutes, cutting inside from the left and bending an effort into the far top corner.

It was 2-0 in the 32nd minute as Steven Gerrard's inswinging corner was only half-cleared to the edge of the penalty area where Glen Johnson unleashed a shot which took a deflection off Michael Turner to beat Craig Gordon.

As Liverpool continued to overwhelm Sunderland after the break, Johnson set up the third by threading the ball through to Torres, who spun on the penalty spot to turn the ball past Gordon.
