Real Madrid closed the gap on La Liga leaders Barcelona to one point with a 2-0 home win over third-placed Valencia.
Real broke the deadlock on 25 minutes when Guti stole the ball and passed to Gonzalo Higuaín in the area and the striker placed the ball past goalkeeper César Sánchez.
The hosts then had to withstand some nervy moments during the second half before Cristiano Ronaldo doubled their lead 12 minutes from time.
