La Liga: Almería 2-3 Sevilla

Sunday, May 16, 2010

19-year-old Rodri came off the bench to score a late, late winner for 10-man Sevilla at Almería to send his side into the Champions League.

Frédéric Kanouté opened the scoring for Sevilla on 16 minutes, only for Almería midfielder Fernando Soriano to equalise with a volley on the stroke of half-time.

Antonio Álvarez's men needed just eight minutes of the second period to retake the lead when José Manuel Chico diverted the ball into his own net.

Sevilla had been in danger of losing out to Real Mallorca in the battle for the Champions League after Álvaro Negredo was sent off in the 65th minute and Juanma Ortiz leveled with a superb shot from the edge of the box 11 minutes from time.

However, the visitors threw everything into attack in the closing seconds and Rodri was the unlikely hero with a stunning volley to spark wild celebrations among the Sevilla fans.
