World Cup 2010 Group C: USA 1-0 Algeria

The United States advanced to the round of 16 at the World Cup with a last-gasp 1-0 win over Algeria in an entertaining contest at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Landon Donovan was the hero for USA as he rammed home from close range in stoppage time to pull the Americans back from the brink of World Cup elimination.

There was still time for skipper Antar Yahia to pick up a second yellow card for a clash with Carlos Bocanegra.

The USA top Group C on goals scored after England's 1-0 win over Slovenia meant the Three Lions finished second.
