Spanish player scores penalty with Thierry Henry trick

Sunday, July 25, 2010

Thierry Henry has done this trick in training before, but a Spanish U-19 player has gone one step further by scoring a goal from the penalty spot with the audacious technique.

Spain were leading 2-0 against Italy at the U-19 European Championships in France when substitute Ezequiel Calvente earned himself a penalty following a foul by Alessandro Crescenzi inside the area.

The Real Betis player picked himself up from the floor and asked coach Luis Milla to let him take the spot-kick.

Calvente planted the ball on the penalty spot and, displaying great coolness, converted the penalty in the way we had not seen before.

The 19-year-old says he was inspired after watching Henry on television and decided to try it.
