Valencia maintained their perfect start to the new season with a 2-1 win over neighbours Hércules at the Estadio José Rico Pérez.
Juan Mata gave Valencia the lead after just two minutes before Pablo Hernández drilled in a second in the 24th minute.
Former Juventus striker David Trezeguet pulled a goal back from the penalty spot before half-time, but Valencia held out for another solid three points.
