Man United target David de Gea happy at Atlético Madrid

Friday, December 31, 2010

Sir Alex Ferguson's hunt for a new goalkeeper has suffered a setback after one of his prime targets dashed any hope of an imminent switch to Manchester United.

Ferguson is on the lookout for a long-term replacement for Edwin van der Sar after it emerged that the Dutchman will retire at the end of the season.

The United manager is believed to be an admirer of Atlético Madrid's highly-rated keeper David de Gea has reportedly sent scouts to watch the young keeper in action.

The 20-year-old shot-stopper is one of Spain's bright prospects and has already cemented a first team place at the Vicente Calderón.

But despite interest from the 18-time English champions, de Gea insists he is happy to remain at the club and is not looking for a move away from the Spanish capital.

He told AS: "I am very comfortable here, this has always been my club, and I want to defend this shirt for a long time and win titles.

"The club is in charge but I am very happy here, and when things go well there is no need to change."
