Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed a brace as 10-man Real Madrid saw off local rivals Getafe 3-2 to keep the heat on La Liga leaders Barcelona.

In a frantic Spanish capital derby at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, Ronaldo opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 12th minute before Mesut Özil doubled the scoreline soon after.

Getafe pulled one back before the break through former Real midfielder Dani Parejo but Ronaldo restored his side's two-goal lead just before the hour-mark.

With eight minutes remaining, Álvaro Arbeloa was sent off after receiving a second yellow card and substitute Juan Albín pulled another goal back for Getafe on 85 minutes, but José Mourinho's men held on to make it 11 wins in their last 12 competitive matches.
