Stoke City moved into eighth in the Premier League after defeating an industrious Bolton Wanderers side 2-0 at the Britannia Stadium.
The hosts broke the deadlock on 37 minutes when Johan Elmander failed to deal with a Tuncay Şanlı corner and flicked on the cross into the path of Danny Higginbotham, who stabbed the ball over the line from close range.
Zat Knight then brought down Matthew Etherington in the box just past the hour mark and the winger picked himself up to score from the spot even though Jussi Jääskeläinen got a hand to his effort.
