Dirk Kuyt grabbed a hat-trick as Liverpool secured a 3-1 success over bitter rivals Manchester United at Anfield.
The Reds opened the scoring in the 34th minute when Luis Suárez wriggled past three defenders before squaring the ball through Edwin van der Sar's legs to present Kuyt with a tap-in from just inches.
Nani's woeful header then allowed Kuyt to nod home his second five minutes later before the Dutch international completed his treble by tapping in the rebound after van der Sar failed to hold Suárez's free kick.
Javier Hernández headed home a consolation in added time but it hardly raised a cheer among the visiting fans.
