Gastón Ramírez scored a classy backheel goal as Bologna pushed past Fiorentina 2-0 at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara on Tuesday.
The hosts broke the deadlock on the half hour mark when Alessandro Diamanti found a way past Artur Boruc at the second attempt after his initial effort was saved by the Fiorentina goalkeeper.
And Bologna doubled their advantage just before the break in great style.
Marco Di Vaio ran to the by-line on the edge of the box and pulled it back for a spectacular Ramírez backheel flick at the near post to stun Boruc.
Fiorentina's task of winning went from difficult to almost impossible after Rubén Olivera was sent off early in the second half for a forearm smash on Diamanti.
