Alexandre Lacazette scored the only goal of the game to help Olympique Lyon to a hard-fought 1-0 win over APOEL Nicosia in a one-sided first leg at the Stade Gerland.
The decisive goal came after 58 minutes when Cris played the ball down the left channel for Lacazette, whose powerful shot deflected off APOEL defender Paulo Jorge and looped over goalkeeper Dionisis Chiotis.
