A bizarre episode unfolded during last night's Premier League clash between Everton and Manchester City as a pitch invader managed to handcuff himself to one of the goalposts at Goodison Park.

The remarkable scenes occurred shortly before half-time when a spectator ran onto the pitch and handcuffed himself to the left post of City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

The majority of players looked on with confusion and disbelief, while what had initially been an amusing turn of events for the crowd quickly led to annoyance, with boos ringing around the ground.

After the five minutes, the man was cut loose by boltcutters and the game continued.

His reasoning for the protest didn't seem to have anything to do with the game or the clubs involved, though.

The protestor is thought to have taken to the pitch to air his views after his daughter's alleged unfair dismissal by Ryanair.

He was wearing a t-shirt that read: "Europe's greatest training robbers. Ryanair. Lowest wages guaranteed. Stop. Recruitment scamming our children."

Apparently, the protestor decided to take action against the airline's recruiting policies after Ryanair refused to offer a job to his daughter.
