Champions League: APOEL 0-3 Real Madrid

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

Real Madrid will go into the second leg of the Champions League next Wednesday at home with one foot in the semi-finals after beating APOEL Nicosia 3-0 in the first leg of the quarter-final in Cyprus.

APOEL held out until the 74th minute when Karim Benzema broke the deadlock with a diving header from Kaká's delivery from the left.

The visitors doubled the advantage eight minutes later as Marcelo was caught in the box by Paulo Jorge but kept his balance and cut the ball back for Kaká to slot home.

Benzema wrapped up the victory with his second of the night in stoppage time, slotting home Mesut Özil's inviting low pass for his 27th goal of the season.
