La Liga: Osasuna 1-5 Real Madrid

Sunday, April 1, 2012

Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuaín scored two goals apiece as Real Madrid moved a step closer to the La Liga title with a thumping 5-1 win at Osasuna.

Karim Benzema opened the scoring in spectacular fashion in the seventh minute before Ronaldo doubled his side's lead on 37 minutes with a thumping drive from 35 yards.

The game was effectively over as a contest on 40 minutes when Higuaín latched onto Xabi Alonso's precise pass before clipping his finish over Andrés Fernández for his 100th goal in Los Merengues colours.

Osasuna pulled a goal back just two minutes into the second period through Nino's bullet header, only for Ronaldo to restore Madrid's three-goal advantage with a deflected free-kick on 70 minutes.

Higuaín then headed in a Ronaldo cross soon after to complete the rout, while Osasuna finished with 10 men after Roland Lamah was shown two yellow cards late on.
