A quality-starved first half was punctured only after 11 minutes when Ramires seized on a series of Liverpool blunders to burst down the right and slot into the net.

Drogba doubled their advantage just minutes into the second-half when he rattled a shot through Martin Škrtel's legs and into the net after being fed by Frank Lampard.

The game then changed on the hour when Andy Carroll came on and he scored four minutes later after twisting John Terry around superbly inside the area.

Then, in the final minutes, Carroll had netted a leveler when he connected with a trademark header.

But the celebrations were cut short as the officials ruled Petr Čech had clawed the ball out before it had crossed the line.
